My belief is that all students learn differently. It is my job as an educator to figure out those unique styles. Presenting material in several different ways ensures that each child will grasp something. It is also important for them to know how to problem solve in life. I have always taught my students that life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you handle it.
Children should always be challenged to give their best. Perfection is not the goal, growth is. I am attentive and sensitive to my students needs, both emotional and educational. My students should feel like they can come to me with anything without judgement.
My students deserve a flexible, safe and energetic learning environment, where they can use their creativity to think outside the box. Piaget believed that students should be able to go through the four stages of development; language, morals, memory and thinking. They deserve a teacher who is creative, organized and always prepared for the day ahead in order for them to learn within those stages.
I like my students to interact with me and each other. While I may guide the discussion, I want my students to think for themselves when learning new things. I want my students to know there is more than one way to get to a desired outcome.
I agree with Vygotsky’s theory that emphasizes active participation and acceptance of individual differences. It is my belief that students learn better when allowed to be active in their own learning. Vygotsky also promotes assisted discovery by using peer collaboration. It is through social interaction that most children learn more.
Every child deserves my very best.
